I Thought I Could Trust Them Ken Ebright
“But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” Matthew 6:15. (NCV)
What do we do when we are hurt by the poor decisions of someone who is supposed to be an expert or our boss? Like the financial planner, I once trusted who led me to lose a lot of money I could not afford to lose because of his lack of knowledge. Or, another time, I lost money when I entered into a partnership with someone who mislead me. Then there was my supervisor, who was a friend. He instituted a policy that was not thought out well, leading to even more misfortune in my life.
One of the difficulties of this life is that we are going to be affected by the imperfections and errors of other people. All three of the mistakes I listed had a profound impact on my life. So, how do we forgive these people? I have discovered from experience that it can be very difficult. Thankfully, there was someone who came into my life and gave me great advice. They told me that I couldn’t do it in my own strength. I needed to look to the Lord's example and ask for His help to forgive them.
It is clear by our verse that the Lord wants us to forgive others. Thankfully, the cross changed things. God led by example and offered forgiveness to us first, even to those who struggle to forgive others. If we consider His example of forgiving us first, the undeserving, it goes a long way in helping us forgive others. Jesus will always help us when it comes to embracing forgiveness. The question is, are you ready to forgive others as you have been forgiven?
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you. Eph 4:31 NIV
