How Do We Worship God in Spirit and Truth?
“But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in Spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. John 4:23 NAS
We worship God in the truth of who we are in the Spirit, in Christ. We are a born-again perfected Spirit, the very Spirit of Christ dwelling in us and crying out Abba Father.
Because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” Gal 4:6 NAS
We no longer see ourselves or have any confidence in our flesh, this temporary tent as Paul calls it, the old creation. God sees our flesh as crucified and dead on the cross with Christ - Gal 2:20, circumcised, set apart from our perfect Spirit – Col 2:11, and He calls us to do the same.
For we are the true circumcision, who worship in the Spirit of God and glory in Christ Jesus and put no confidence in the flesh, Phil 3:3 NAS
We believe that our Spirit, our new creation in Christ, is our true identity and we no longer regard Christ, our ourselves, as in the flesh, the old creation.
Therefore from now on we recognize no one according to the flesh; even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him in this way no longer. Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come. 2 Cor 5:16-17 NAS
We worship God in Spirit and truth by focusing on Jesus finished work and who we are in Christ as described in scripture. We keep our eyes on the perfection of Christ as if looking at our reflection in a mirror – 2 Cor 3:18. As we do, our minds are renewed to the truth of the new creation we have become.
There is no better way to worship God than to acknowledge what He has done for us by walking in the perfection of our Spirit, the truth of the new creation.
“God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in Spirit and truth.” John 4:24 NAS
