Help From Above - Jennifer Woodley ‘Taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.’ Mark 6:41 (NIV).
This fish and loaves miracle occurred because Jesus looked to His Father. Turning His focus from the meager offerings that lay in His hand, Jesus sought something greater by looking Heavenward. Jesus knew there was more to come than what was in front of Him.
There is an abundance in God’s storehouse that we have yet to access if we turn to Him and ask. If, as Jesus said in Matthew 7, we as imperfect parents know how to take care of our children and give them what’s best, how much more ready is our Heavenly Father to give wonderful gifts to those who ask him? Our Father is ready to shower us with what is best for us if we earnestly and humbly seek Him.
What holds us back? Perhaps we have a false perception of who God really is. That’s understandable when we live in a culture that makes God out to be angry, impersonal and judging. But God says He is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in love (Psalm 103:8). Let’s ensure we know who the real God is. This is the God Jesus called upon. This is the God we call upon. This is the God who helps when we cry out in our time of need. The God who fed five thousand men wants to sustain us too.
‘Father, you alone work miracles. I ask you to help me in my current circumstances. Sustain me Lord through your mighty power within me and your loving presence about me. Amen.’
