HIS CREATION – Gloria Pierre Dean
“And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.” (Mark 4:37-39 KJV)
“Anna, it's all been for nothing — years of study and listening to Darwin’s theories. They can’t prove any of their theories. All the thousands of books, magazines, and academic degrees — all prove nothing except they’re wrong, so very wrong!” James declared, his face red with indignation.
Anna and James were students at the same college who had met in a book club. James was a Christian, and Anna was ... well, she wasn't quite sure, because she was conflicted about her faith. Her father was a philosopher who taught her the world was billions of years old and that earth and nature were still evolving. But the theory seemed too difficult for her to take in.
“Someone had to be in control, daddy!” she’d often say. “A smashed glass doesn’t pull itself together and reform as something else. How did a frog decide to evolve? Who designed it to do that?”
These kinds of questions kept her awake at night until she befriended James – who impressed her with his outspoken ability to debate Professor Gilcrest, a staunch evolutionist, in class.
“There is a God! He’s in control and has created all things,” James told him.
The professor and some of the students openly laughed, but some didn’t.
Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: Matt 5:11-12a KJV
Among them, a small group of Christians began to meet. They called themselves 'The Faith Group’ and met at Chick-fil-A to talk, pray, and read the Bible. They often spoke and prayed about the antagonism in the nation against God and creationism. And on frequent walks in the local park, Anna reminded herself Who it was that created the beauty she saw all around her. She remembered how Jesus spoke to the wind and the waves and there was a great calm — like the calm she felt when she threw off her doubts and decided to trust God’s Word.
Imagine; Jesus spoke to His creation and it obeyed!
