God's Timing - And Ours - Anne Adams
For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night (Ps.90:4 NRSV)
In anxious anticipation, my friends Mary and Joe prepared for their new baby. They even had the nursery ready but it remained empty since the infant was still thousands of miles away.
Still, she was on her way! The foreign adoption agency had assured them of that and the baby they’d named Emma would soon arrive.
However, Joe and Mary had waited before since they had already endured several previous failed adoption attempts. Yet this time just felt different, Mary told me. “We used to keep the nursery door closed,” she said, “but since we know Emma is on her way now we keep it open.”
Then before they knew it they received word that all was ready and they traveled to bring their new daughter home.. And at the right time, Emma herself was in that nursery.
As Joe and Mary discovered, waiting was difficult and I’ve found it’s the same for me. For I know, as the Psalmist said, sometimes our waiting is an aspect of God’s timing and certainly his concept of timing is far beyond ours. For when we have to wait what seems an eternity to us is for him just a split second in duration! It’s as if he’s saying, “My Time is Not Your Time!”
Nevertheless, since I know that God has a perfect plan for my life then if I must wait then his reasons are perfect and that’s all I need to know.
