God's Spokesman – Anne Adams
God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; Hebrews 1:1-2 (NKJV)
We see the words spokesperson often on TV, particularly at a press conference when an official representative makes an announcement for another party. When this happens, they will often identify the person as a spokesman or spokesperson for the official. Simply put, a spokesperson is someone who represents and has the authority to speak for another.
Did you know that God has authorized others to speak for him? The writer of Hebrews tells us that the Lord's first spokesmen were the Old Testament prophets who represented God and announced his messages to his people.
So what did they say? Often the messages were God's promises for his people, and frequently his promise of a Savior – a Redeemer. Then, says the writer, God sent his Son Jesus Christ to be the promised Savior and Redeemer and at the same time to be God's new spokesman. He not only speaks for God but is the message personified. He exemplifies and embodies in his person all of God's precious promises. God's previous representatives were human. The new and final spokesman is God himself.
