Giving Back to God – Sheriena McEvers Giving back to God is an act of worship. All He gives me I must continually give back. I do my best to:
• Keep what He gives me free of entanglements. • Keep it pure, unclouded by my opinion, by other’s opinions, or tainted by pride.
• Hold on to it lightly, loosely, so it doesn’t become my possession and thereby possess me.
• Remember what He gives me is to be turned around, reflected, to glorify Him.
• Whatever God shares with me must be poured out to others, or it will stagnate.
The more time we spend with God in His Word, the more we receive from Him. But He doesn’t want us to hoard it to ourselves. He wants us to let it pour out to other people, our friends, our family. Continually receiving, continually pouring out. Only then will we find joy and peace. Whenever we must have something or cling to something, we are once again in bondage, a slave to self and ultimately to Satan. Freely we have received, freely we must give.
Let’s not be a dead sea, a stagnant pond with no outlet. Rather let’s be a fountain of living water poured out to others, pointing them to our wonderful, awesome God. That is how we give it back to God.
On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” John 7:37-38
Great and Awesome Father, You have much to give us. Help us not to be selfish and hoard it. Help us to let it flow through us, refreshing us and refreshing others.
