Friendship with the Lord - Karen Pourbabaee “Trust in the Lord and do good that you may dwell in the land and live secure. Find your delight in the Lord who will give you your heart’s desire. Commit your way to the Lord; trust that God will act…Be still before the Lord; wait for God.” Psalm 37: 3-4,7 NAB
When we first come to faith, there is a general trust in the Lord. Much like meeting a potential friend, we generally trust in their goodness that we might develop a real friendship. Perhaps you inherited your faith from family; that’s a blessing. But we each must pursue a relationship with God. We cannot subsist on head knowledge or another’s faith. As friendship blossoms, there’s a delight in spending time and sharing life with a new friend. “Find your delight in the Lord…” and your friendship with Him will deepen.
Soon you will be excited to commit your way to the Lord, because you have come to know Him, feel His unconditional love, and know in your heart He will do what is best for you. Your life, your path can be committed to Him. “Commit your way to the Lord; trust that God will act…”
Real friends, especially spouses, can sit in silence together, their presence often bringing comfort. “Be still before the Lord; wait for God.” Receive His comfort and His words as you listen in the silence. Be willing to wait with Him like a good friend. And trust Him in the waiting times of life.
A genuine, abiding friendship with the Lord leads to many blessings, as found in Psalm 37: You will live securely. The Father will give you your heart’s desire; He will bring to fulfillment what He has purposed for you. God will always act on your behalf. Take care to go through the steps of building a friendship with the Lord and live a blessed life.
