Fighting Anxiety - Gloria Pierre Dean Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, rejoice. Let your gentleness be made known to all people. Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in every circumstance and in everything, by prayer and petition, definite requests, with thanksgiving, continue to make my wants known to God. Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are honourable, whatever things are right, whatever things are pure, whatever things are pleasing, whatever things are commendable, if there is any excellence of character and if anything praiseworthy, think about these things. {PHILIPPIANS 4: 5-8}
Recipe for peace.
Not as easy as it sounds, and I speak from a personal perspective. Paul says to start with rejoicing, prayer, petitions, thanksgiving, and letting God know what we need. Next is a mixture of what we need to focus on. Whatever is true, honourable, right, pure, pleasing, commendable, excellent, and worthy of praise.
How can we do this?
In our hearts and verbally, we must choose to rejoice, pray, and ask thankfully. God wants us to honestly tell Him our needs. It is important what we focus on.
With God’s help, we must remove the impure, the dishonourable, the wrong, and that which is of poor quality and unworthy of praise. This is a focused attack on anxiety and is based on who God is.
He is pure, true, honourable, right, commendable, has excellence of character and is praiseworthy. What helps too is what we place before our eyes such as movies and TV shows that we watch and the books that we read. Do they honour and please God? Do they give Him glory, or is the enemy the designer? Finally, believe that the Holy Spirit will guide and speak to us. We must be receptive and sensitive to His stirrings.
