“Be glad for all God is planning for you. Be patient in trouble and prayerful always.” Romans 12:12 LB
This Romans verse hints that God may be planning trouble for you! Indeed, many scriptures affirm this very assumption, and we’re supposed to be glad about it! For example, “Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials.” (James 1:2 NAB) Not if, but when. “In the world you will have trouble, but take courage. I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33 NAB) OK, we can expect trouble. We must be armed with the right response.
Be patient. It is both a virtue and sign of trust in God. Patience holds a promise from God’s Word. “You need to keep on patiently doing God’s will if you want Him to do for you all that He has promised.” (Hebrews 10:36 LB) Lord, help me to be patient.
Be prayerful. Our vocation is to pray without ceasing according to 1 Thessalonians 5:16. As we are obedient, He will listen—here He confirms: “When you call Me, when you go to pray to Me, I will listen to you.” (Jeremiah 29:12 NAB) Lord, thank You for listening.
He will be faithful. You have an unchanging, faithful Father in heaven who will do everything for you as you do your part: exercise patient endurance in trouble, and remain prayerful always. These steadfast actions display an enduring trust in Him. “The one who calls you is faithful and He will do this.” (I Thessalonians 5:25) Therefore, you can be content in all that God is planning for you. Each and every circumstance, whether it causes rejoicing or despairing, all hold God’s promise.
Lord, thank You for being a faithful Father. Amen.
