Delivered - Karen Pourbabaee “Many are the troubles of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him from them all.” Psalm 34:20 NABRE
Did you think the Christian journey would be total bliss? That if you read your Bible, prayed every day, and went to church, you would be kept out of all distress or troubles? Psalm 34 reminds us that we will have many troubles in this life. John reminds us of this also: “I have told you this so that you might have peace in Me. In the world you will have trouble, but take courage. I have conquered the world.” (John 16:33 NAB)
Sometimes troubles come because, well, we are human. We make mistakes, wrong decisions, succumb to temptation, etc. At other times, it is the work of the evil one who would like to thwart our lives and the plan of God. But often, afflictions are the tools of God to help us grow; He wants to raise mature sons and daughters, equipped to withstand the battles of life. However, He is near and watching us intently. We are never alone. “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in distress.” (Psalm 46:1 NAB)
God doesn’t keep us out of all trouble, but He delivers us from all troubles. Sometimes He changes the trouble. Sometimes He changes the troubled one. But if we trust in Him, He will deliver us as promised in Psalm 34. And He will use our troubles to bring good to our lives and fulfill His purposes. “We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to His purpose.” (Romans 8:28 NAB)
In the midst of my troubles, You bring me Your peace, Lord. You are my refuge, my strength, and my deliverer. Jesus, I trust in You. Amen.
