Could Something So Innocent Be Lethal?
H.L. Ford
“Whoever loses His life for My sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39 NIV)
A certain woman of faith picked up her wine goblet from the bedroom nightstand and started to the kitchen. She heard these words in her spirit — “What do you have in your hand?” She knew Moses once heard the very same question from God. Moses answered, “My staff,” and God told him to “cast it to the ground”. When he did, the staff became a serpent, and Moses ran the other way. (Exodus 4:2-3 KJV)
The woman thought about the story of God revealing his supernatural power to Moses, but saw it in a whole new light. She felt as if God was telling her to ‘cast down’ her goblet and run, or her wine habit would become a ‘serpent’ with a lethal bite — and that if she was willing to ‘cast it down’ the very act of obedience would propel her into something endued with supernatural power.
The woman knew her life was at a pivotal point and about to change for better or for worse. She said to the Lord, “I cast this beverage down and will not take it up again until I drink it new with You in your Kingdom.” At that moment her walk with Jesus began anew.
Believers, if we have a habit in our lives that might become highly addictive, we should ‘cast it down’ before it becomes lethal. Jesus gave His life for us. We can surely make a small sacrifice for Him. And with our firm decision, He will empower us to overcome.
