Completing the Work - Jennifer Woodley "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up." Galatians 6:9 (NIV)
The wise builder does not set out to build a home by laying a foundation and then become distracted, abandoning the work. Likewise, God has chosen tasks for each of us to complete. He asks us to add on to the good that we have been doing, further building on the foundation that He has laid.
His specific encouragement is not to let ongoing work lay forgotten but to keep adding to it until the day of completion. Do not allow apathy, distractions, or indifference to hinder the work. Do not allow the enemy to rob you of the final outcome that will be good and pleasing to Me. Persevere and press onwards. I, the Lord your God, will help you.
This week the Lord reminded me that I had grown indifferent to a task He had given me. I had let my attention wander to less important things with the work left incomplete. I am thankful for His gentle reprimand, and in repentance, I discarded the distraction so that I could continue to bring my heavenly Father honor.
Distractions rob us of our energy, passion, and time, that is better invested in God's work as we trust in His promises of what our future holds. Today, there is an urgency to recognize where we are giving ourselves to lesser things and consider how we can remain faithful to the work God has chosen for us. He promises we will not be disappointed.
What good work has our heavenly Father called you to complete?
