Do My Actions Match up with Wearing His Name? - Robert Schaetzle
“That I may know Him and the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings, being conformed to His death.” Philippians 3:10 NASB
I walk ‘In Christ’ through faith, wearing the name ‘Christian,’ so I must determine; what am I about? To wear the name ‘Christian’ brings the responsibility of being more than just a casual acquaintance with our Lord. I’m learning to purpose my life to have an abiding intimacy. To recognize His Superior presence, love and authority over my actions. To know Him better each day.
Getting to know and understand someone you care about, whether it be a spouse, family member, childhood friend or brother or sister of faith, requires spending time with that individual. How then, should we spend precious time with the One who created us? Prayer, listening for and to God, reading and meditating upon Biblical promises, memorizing scripture….? Yes, to all the above, but there’s something that we tend to overlook regarding our responsibility in wearing the name ‘Christian,’ that truly brings Him honor. The Word calls us to deny the old self and put on the new creation we have become in Christ.
“If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his cross daily and follow Me. Luke 9:23b NASB
Learning to deny ourselves ‘daily,’ is a prerequisite to find our new life in Him fully. ‘Losing our life for His’ results in real intimacy and surrender to His Lordship. But be prepared and put on the whole armor of God…’ because ‘The Power of Darkness,’ will do everything he can to make us stumble in our desire to know and be closer to our Father.
In the end, abiding intimately with the Father and Son is the main factor that allows us to supernaturally produce the fruits of the Spirit, so we walk worthy of His Name.
