Choosing Wisely - Karen Pourbabaee
“In all your ways be mindful of Him and He will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:6 NAB
I recently read that the average adult makes about 30,000 decisions a day. That is almost unfathomable! Proverbs rightly advises us to be mindful of the Lord if we would gain His guidance on our paths in life and make wise choices on our journeys. This is further confirmed in Psalm 37:23: “The steps of good men are directed by the Lord.” (LB) The key point is focus, being mindful of the Lord. Our hearts must be turned toward Him if we are to hear and receive that direction. He will help us with wise decisions if we are paying attention.
It may be easy to start our day mindfully, but it is a challenge for many to stay mindful. We are apt to lose that strong focus in the busyness of our days. And when our focus turns away from the Lord, we grasp for other things, often making poor choices. We simply need to refocus, perhaps many times a day. Refocus will bring us back to God’s realm of peace and the ability to choose wisely.
And remember, when the way seems unclear and your decision uncertain, ask! For here is God’s promise: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him.” (James 1:5 NAB) Yes, it is wisdom to ask. He will answer, and set you on a straight path.
O God of all wisdom, I will turn my heart toward You and listen for Your wise counsel. Thank You for directing my steps on the paths You have ordained for me. Amen.
