Called to Attentiveness - Karen Pourbabaee
“Make your ear attentive to wisdom. Incline your ear to understanding.” Proverbs 2:2 NAS
God has called us to attention, to Him first, then others. To be attentive indicates devotion. To Him, our worship is due first. “In the morning, O Lord, Thou wilt hear my voice. In the morning, I will offer my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch.” (Psalm 5:3) Flowing from Godly devotion, He calls us to be considerate and courteous to others in brotherly love.
We are called to be attentive to His sons and daughters, too. Sometimes in trials and woundedness, a loved one cannot see a way out. They may be blinded to God’s love and vision for their lives. Perhaps scorched in a dry spiritual season. It is here in their desert, God may be calling you to attentiveness on their behalf. It’s the greatest gift you can give another, to bring them in prayer to the Lord. To offer your prayer and eagerly watch.
God may call some to the multitudes, but I believe He really calls multitudes to the one. I was recently feeling my circle was too small, and I wasn’t being effective enough in the Kingdom. A friend immediately reminded me that I do reach many with my written words. In my passion for spiritual writing, I’m attentive to the body of Christ. Recently, I committed to help carry the cross of a dear friend. Praying one day, the Lord showed me a tender, but confusing image. After months of stress and depression, when I shared that image with her, she laughed! The Lord has shown us both more meaning in that image that helped her turn a corner. Offer your prayer, but eagerly watch for God’s wisdom and understanding. We are called to attentiveness.
