Becoming God’s Masterpiece – Cheryl Weber
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (Eph. 2:10)
You may have heard someone say, “I’m a self-made man.” They mean, “I’ve achieved my success through my own efforts and talents.”
However, only God is qualified to shape and direct our lives. He created us and knows us best. Only he possesses the love, wisdom, power, and foreknowledge to lead us to our true destinies. He knew about us and loved us individually before the world began and intended us to be his children through Jesus his Son.
Unfortunately, we tend to follow our own plans and ambitions. We may possess wonderful talents, intelligence, and the best of intentions. We may have marvelous earthly resources, achieve great things, amass wealth, earn prestige, and the applause of others. God may even use our human efforts for good. But if we have not yielded our hearts and lives to the will of the Father, we will fall far short of “the good things he planned for us long ago.” We will find at last that nothing we have gained can truly satisfy the deepest longings of our hearts.
Only a relationship with the Father can fill the void and he has made a way for that. By dying on a Roman cross, Jesus, God’s Son, took the punishment for the sins that separated us from him. Only through turning from our ways and trusting in Jesus, can we have real purpose and abundant, eternal life. (John 10:10) Then the Master Artist can turn our lives into masterpieces. We will become “God-made” people, treasures to him, to ourselves, and to others.
PRAYER: Heavenly Father, I thank you for your wisdom, love, and grace that can make the very best from my life. I submit to your will. Amen.
