A Wonderful Promise – Toni M. Babcock “As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world,” (John 9:5 CSB).
It’s a wonderful promise isn’t it? As long as Jesus is in the world, he is the light of the world.
It begs us ask the question “Are we truly allowing Jesus into our world, into our lives, and into our hearts? Because once we invite the Lord Jesus into our lives, He can’t help but shine.
That’s why Jesus could tell His disciples, “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven,” (Matthew 5:14-16 CSB).
Jesus touches on a two-fold influence we have in the world. As believers, we are the “city on the hill” sharing God’s love and light in the world in every way we can. And as individuals, we are the “lamp on the lampstand” sharing God’s love and light in more personal ways with family and friends.
As long as Jesus is in the world, He is the light of the world. Christ’s wonderful promise is ours. In this New Year, will He be a light through you?
