A Secure Foundation – Cheryl Weber
We were created to find our greatest fulfillment, security, and satisfaction in Father God. The universe and natural world were created by him, for him, and for our provision and enjoyment. But we rebelled against our Creator and all he had to offer. We turned away from him to the created things, thinking we could gain from the world what only our heavenly Father could give us. But we have found the world to be alarmingly unstable and fleeting. Everything we look to for security and hope other than God eventually fails us. 1 John 2:17 says, "And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave."
Only God offers us certain hope and lasting peace based on his unshakable love, power, mercy, goodness, and sure promises. He alone never changes, never fails. He alone never abandons us, never dies, never grows old. He is unchallenged, perfect, and unchanging. Even when our lives ebb away, he remains our strength and our God forever (Ps. 73:26).
God's hope is for this life and eternity. It comes through trusting his Son, Jesus Christ. 1 John 2:17 also says of those who trust in him, "But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever." Let's cling to this hope.
No diagnosis can rob us of it.
No calamity can take it away.
No actions of others can deprive us of it.
No loss, no matter how extensive, can eliminate it.
Failure cannot erase it.
War, natural disaster, crime, old age, famine cannot destroy it.
Death only brings us into the full reality of it.
Absolutely nothing can separate us from this hope that is in the love of Christ Jesus, our Lord.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, I thank you that amid a world that is fragile and unstable, and often dark, you are my strength and my hope that will never fail or change. Amen.
