A Cloud of Controversy – Jennifer Woodley ‘But they kept asking him, “Then how were your eyes opened?”’ John 9:10 (NRSV)
Whenever Jesus did a wonderful thing there was a cloud of controversy that followed. Some believed, others did not. Jesus left a trail of division wherever he went. People said He was only a carpenter’s son from Galilee. Jesus was nothing more than that. Then others claimed He was the Messiah, the chosen One from God. Disagreement was the norm where Jesus was concerned.
For those who chose to follow the Savior, however, there was no longer doubt. Jesus was who He claimed to be and that settled it. There was no turning back. They could no longer be persuaded to think anything different.
The blind man’s life was changed when he experienced the life-changing power of Jesus. His neighbors still doubted; but he did not. Jesus brought light to the man’s spiritual darkness and now he could see very clearly.
Like the blind man, we too have received our sight. We no longer walk with unbelievers in a dark cloud of controversy. Instead, we walk boldly believing that Jesus is all that He claims to be. We know who we are in Christ and who Christ has become for us. Let’s continue to remember that because of Jesus’ mercy, we have received new eyes that see, and each day we walk in His light rather than in darkness and doubt. Praise be to God for His goodness to us!
‘Heavenly Father, thank you that you have opened my spiritual eyes to see who you truly are. There is no doubt that you are the Christ, my Savior and my Deliverer. Thank you.’
