All God’s Children by Sandra Fischer Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Psalm 100:3 NKJV Our granddaughter, Addie, is a special needs child. When our daughter takes her out in public she receives many questions about her condition In a recent encounter a curious little girl asked what was wrong with Addie. Our daughter answered that God had created her the way she is. This caused the small inquisitor to pose the question of whether Addie could walk or talk. “She can walk, but she can’t talk,” was the response.
The little girl remarked, “She’s beautiful, but I feel sorry for her.” Our daughter assured her she shouldn’t feel that way because God had made Addie. This prompted the deeper question many people think, but are reluctant to ask, “Why did God make her that way?”
“That’s a very good question,” came the reply. With wisdom only God can give, the little girl reflected, then said, “Maybe it’s so I don’t have to feel sorry for myself – I can walk and talk.” Fighting tears, our daughter told her that her answer was perfect. It’s true. The LORD is God and He has made us and not we ourselves. His ways and purposes are sometimes past our finding out, but we can trust Him and thank Him for His providence in creating all His children.
