Over the years, God’s wisdom and authority have taught me how to lean on Him. Before leaving my car as I began my work day, I would pray. "Father let your light so shine through me this day that others will see your good work as I dedicate and purpose this day for your honor." Taken from Mathew 5:16, I found my work not without temptation; but through those moments, His presence was there for me, to walk with me throughout the day. Were all days alike or without moments of extra strength needed from our Lord? No, by all means.
Throughout my forty-plus years working as a civil servant, dealing and interacting with all kinds and types of people's personalities, I realized often, after many a given situation, I would say, “Thank You Lord for walking with me through this.”
There are many who have probably memorized Proverbs 3:5-7, which are words of admonition and encouragement that give maturity to trusting more in His leading rather than self. Verse 7 ("Be not wise in your own eyes.”) teaches that resting in human reasoning or thoughts can cause one to stumble and answer before we fully listen, leading to folly and shame as Proverbs 18:13 warns.
When serving others, whether it is in customer relations or in every day communication needs, follow the wisdom of James 1:19 RSV: "Know this, my beloved brethren. Let every man be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger." In these days of volatility, consider how we’re to let His Light shine through us.
