Fear… Yes, Go Ahead – Fear

Considering the Bible commands us not to fear about 365 times, enough to remember absolutely each and every day, where is that so-called “healthy fear” as we read Proverbs 1:7 NKJV? The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.
Let’s look at David in the First Book of Samuel for a great example of healthy fear. We learn that David is fleeing continuously and hiding for his life as King Saul and his army of men hunt for David like game. At an intense moment between the two men, David points out that his reason for every decision is based on his desire for God to be pleased with him: “Let my life be valued much in the eyes of the LORD, and let Him deliver me out of all tribulation.” I Samuel 26:24 NKJV
And there’s healthy fear. David feared displeasing God. He feared going against God’s will. He feared walking further away from God. He feared living without God’s presence continuously in his life.
Healthy fear should be exercised today. Fear of harming your temple by unhealthy eating and lack of exercise. Fear of speaking out of anger instead of trusting God in a situation. Fear of giving up and never seeing God’s beautiful plan unfold in your life. Fear a decision to not accept salvation through Jesus Christ and eternal life. Fear living without God forever.
This fear results, and comes from, faith in Jesus Christ. And dear friend, there is no fear in faith, and there is no faith in bad fear. By faith, we have confidence in God. Then, as the Proverb promises, comes the knowledge!
