How many of us can say with Paul that we were never really in need? We can when we're walking in the Spirit. This may sound like a harsh statement but it's true.
In the Spirit we ARE blessed with every blessing there is. It's our flesh that leads us to feel that we're lacking.
Jesus is the Good Shepherd; He provides for and takes care of His sheep. He is not slacking. We must understand what we really have in Him. For example, we may feel like we're in need because of a financial situation, but the root of that problem cannot be solved with more money. The real root of the problem is doubt, fear, anxiety, and a lack of peace. We are afraid we will lose our home or we are disquieted because we do not have what someone else has or we doubt that we'll ever get out of debt. More money will only provide a temporary bandage. What we really need is already ours in Christ - we simply need to receive it. The love, peace, hope, and joy of God is ours for the taking. He wrote His Word to us to supply us with it. What are we doing with it? Paul learned over time that what he really needed he already had and he learned it by focusing on what he had in Christ rather than his situation. He had everything he needed in Christ and so do we!
