We’re witness to so much turmoil, dissension, hate, and unrest; it's more of a challenge than our human strength can endure from this world of burden. In the above verse, the word, "saved," is a translation of the Greek word sôzô, [a deliverance from danger]. Consider it God’s ‘Hedge of Protection’ about us like we see in Job chapter one. To be under our Lord’s protective power against all this, is to trust His abiding power in us as we take hold of His word.
"Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: 'For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.' Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord." [Romans 8:35-39, NKJV]
God’s assurance is for us to remain steadfast against daily exposure to things happening around us. Deliverance becomes more secure by having His word in our heart. By praying Scripture, we’re taking the helmet of our salvation and the sword of the Spirit against the powers of darkness of this age. We dare not let God’s love for us turn cold; by faith, take firm hold of the promise of His abiding word. Amen.
