The concept of relay races began with the Olympic games of ancient Greece. Each team member doing their part toward the common goal, carrying the baton and transferring it to the next human link until the finish line was reached.
When a young Nazarene girl said yes to the angel Gabriel, the Divine Relay began. Mary became the first human link, carrying the Son of God within her own body and presenting Him to the world on a bed of hay, gently wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Will you receive Jesus from Mary's arms and carry Him lovingly as she did? Will you carry Jesus from the manger into the world? The Father never intended for us to stay in Bethlehem.
Will you receive Jesus from His mother's arms and carry Him faithfully as she did? She walked by faith, not by sight, in the darkness of ancient Israel awaiting a messiah. Will you carry Jesus, He who is the light of the world, into our darkened world and scatter His light? (John 8:12)
Will you carry Jesus, He who is the Prince of Peace, into this chaotic world and spread His peace? (John 14:27) The world has great need!
Will you carry Jesus, He who is Living Hope, into a world that is stressed and despairing? There are multitudes of souls lost upon the waters, in need of the anchor of hope. Carry Living Hope to them. (1 Peter 1:3)
The race is marked out for us. You are the next human link. Don't tarry long in Bethlehem. Worship Him, then bring Him along on your journey.
