The Heavens declare; the skies proclaim. Continuously, they pour forth speech about God's goodness and wonderful works. Surely if God has given His creation a part to play in declaring His wonder, He has given us a role in declaring His glory also. How well do we do this? Do our words honor this mandate? Who will tell of His goodness in our lives, if we do not? Our story cannot be told without God, for as His children, God's part - His provision of our salvation - His endless forgiveness and loving care - His guidance and constant companionship - is an integral part of who we are that needs to be told.
The nature of our words depends upon the state of our heart. If we live in a deep, growing relationship with God, our words have spiritual gravitas. Others are nourished by what we have to say: our words spring forth from a deep reservoir of abundant life with the Father. Our natural, spontaneous outpouring is to declare the works of Him who gives us sustaining life. Our words can have lasting influence, coming from the deep internal reservoir of our relationship with God, or they can rush past like a shallow babbling brook offering nothing but meaningless endless chatter.
What is the state of our heart these days in terms of our relationship with God? Are we abiding close enough to notice His work in our life and declaring this to others? Where our heart finds its home, is where our words find their source.
