Our emaciated cat, Jewels, came out from her hiding place in my bedroom. Fearing another surprise attack from our adopted cat Slipper, Jewels finally settled near her bowl in the kitchen corner to eat. Slipper jumped down from the table chair where she’d been napping and overpowered Jewels with her sixteen-pound frame. Chomping down on Jewels’ neck like a piranha, Slipper ripped out her Calico fur...Meow! Jewels escaped down the hallway into my bedroom, where I clutched her shaking form close to my heart. Crunch, I could hear Slipper scarfing down Jewels’ food in the kitchen.
Crippling fear may be expected behavior in the animal kingdom with no refuge, but not with the children of God, for we are created after His image (Genesis 1:27). King David, a great warrior, felt fear, but he ran to God for help before any battle (Psalm 119:114), and so must we. We don’t live by bread alone but by every word of God (Matthew 4:4). Being malnourished in His Word, makes us feeble, helpless, and shy---a scaredy cat! Faith in Scripture carries weight, defeating all circumstances in our lives (1 John 5:4).
I feared that if I gave Slipper away, no family would love her like I did, but Jewels needed help. God’s delivering plan... I secured Jewels with her food in my bedroom overnight so she could load up on calories in peace. Slipper’s dinnertime was confined to the basement so she would exercise better health and be nice. Pets behave ‘human’ too.
I decree: Fears are like having a catfight with Slipper, but God promises me victory in Him---scratch-free!
