Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him (Proverbs 3:5-6 ESV).
Say you were lost in densely wooded timberland. Probably, your own intuitions of 'true north' would misguide you (like my GPS). It's continuously recalculating … and sadly, I miss appointments. Ugh! Truth is, I depend on technology and believe it's faultless. Yet, glitches abound with nearly everything man creates. However, genius moments do occur. Take for instance the early form of compasses. Rather, lodestones (mineral rocks) possess magnetic forces giving true north direction. Having distinct polarity, they detect correct routes and early seafarers relied heavily upon these instruments. Similarly, we need navigation. In my opinion, complete guidance includes both physical and spiritual escorts.
In fact, divine leadership prevents heartaches. In addition, while God Himself never changes, His methods do. He works in unique ways at different times. He delivered the Hebrew children from Egyptian bondage, leading them through the Red Sea on dry ground (Ex 14:15). What appears humanly impossible is possible with God. Consider the Virgin Mary with Christ's birth, death, and resurrection. God ordains an exact purpose for each individual (Jer 29:11). Then, as we follow Him, we learn the fastest and most direct route to Father God's heart is obedience. C.S. Lewis once wrote, and I'm paraphrasing, 'never calculate without God'.
Are we naturally prone to wander? Yes. But, what would our lives look like if we pursued the One who loves us perfectly? Even greater, incline our hearts to 'Thine is the Kingdom' living. My point: we're created in His exact image and He knows us better than we know ourselves. He's our Way (true north), Truth and Life (John 14:6).
