I know parents don't enjoy talking about it, especially Christians, but I believe it's important to examine the way our kids feel about themselves and their bodies. My parents were like most; they avoided the whole issue and even today with ALL the relaxed attitudes ALL around us, there is still the lacking counterpart of that, which is pure and godly; doesn't that mean that evil is winning?
I was one of those teens-twenty-somethings that made more of these "mistakes" than I care to recall or recount. That's because my parents totally avoided the whole subject. They didn't KNOW me; what I was feeling deep inside. They had no clue that I hated myself so much that it made me desperate for approval. And even today, with all the modern this and high tech that; there STILL isn't enough education for this generation's youth and the silence is as antagonistic as the ever increasing perversion across every media outlet.
I think, no I KNOW parents should talk to their kids about sex and sexuality; it's too important to shrink away in intimidation.
Parent's prayer : Lord keep my kids from growing up too fast. Help them with all the changes they are facing in their bodies, minds and emotions. Help me overcome my feelings of intimidation and give me Your godly words in which to communicate to them, so I can be there for them during this difficult time. I ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.
