| | | | | | Witnessing Jesus by Toni Babcock
"But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost parts of the earth," (Acts 1:8 KJV).
Driving home from work recently, I spotted a large church motto posted in a prominent place. It read: "God didn't call us to be judges and lawyers, he called us to be witnesses." I have to agree, because if we are only judgmental nit-pickers, we'll miss the greatest calling we could ever receive; being a witness for Christ.
Note how Jesus emphasized, "ye shall be witnesses unto me". Unfortunately, some Christians may consistently put themselves in the spotlight, while others persist in witnessing against themselves, but not for Christ. While it is good to confess our sins to God and to man, if that is all we are doing - deploring ourselves; maximizing our sin and failure in the minds of men, while forgetting about what Christ has accomplished on our behalf, the gospel suffers. Faith becomes bottlenecked in a morass of self-loathing, while we become more of a spectacle than a witness. Christ deserves better than that.
When we remain balanced in what Christ has accomplished on our behalf, the main focus will not be on us - our hang-ups, our problems, and our failures, it will be on Jesus - His grace, His love, and His power. After all, the gospel is ultimately about Jesus. Keep Him front and center, and others will begin to see the great things He has done for you through faith in Him.
Lord Jesus, give us wisdom when sharing our story with our witness focused squarely upon you.

As we help you become the writer God has called you to be, you help us spread the gospel in over 230 countries online. Here is a quote from a reader who accepted Jesus on FaithWriters. His life will never be the same because one writer “put pen to paper” and shared it.
‘I literally was transformed and totally healed in an instant upon trusting in Jesus as my lord and savior. The love, joy, light, and peace I feel is way more than words or thoughts can express. This new life of being a true Christian, who is saved, Spirit-filled, born-again, fully and truly converted by the living holy gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ, is going to carry my being further than anyone could ever imagine. It will be the most blessed, rewarding, and holy life in the Lord, which I have embarked upon now.’” Roger P. |
