Living Water - Toni Babcock
"He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water," (John 7:38 KJV).
I once heard a sermon by the late Pastor Stephen Olford, a leading pastor, conference speaker and evangelist who preached with a colorful roll to his R's. I can still hear him captivating his listeners with the prospect of experiencing the fullness of God. To the soul who was willing to believe and surrenderto Christ the promise was sure: "From out of his innermost being will flow Rrrrrrivers of living water!!... Not trickles!!….Not trickles!!…. Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrivers of living water!" Those rolling R's still ring clear. He was referring of course to being filled with God's Spirit as described by Jesus in (John 7:37-39 KJV).
Along with this promise, he also spoke of the danger of allowing bridgeheads for Satan to wreck our lives. It's obvious if we are busy maintaining bridgeheads for the enemy, we are certainly not in a position to experience God's power; which forces the thoughtful believer to consider, what sin or weakness might be a bridgehead for Satan to wreck my life? What might be inhibiting the flow of God's Spirit? Is it anger, bitterness, selfishness or addiction? Is it mean-spiritedness, stubbornness, or complicity with evil?
If we would aim high and see God, we must bow low and see ourselves. Only then will God's power be enabled to break down the bridgeheads and clear the channel for His living water to flow free.
