FOLLOWING THE LEADER - by Linzy Bruno
"Then said Jesus unto his disciples, 'If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.'" (Matthew 16:24 NKJV)
I remember when I attended school, if students weren't considered leaders, they became followers, which many considered equal to being losers. This stigma, as unfair as it was, did have an understandable foundation; after all, people who are followers go along with the crowd, rarely considering standing up for what they believe in.
Here in the grown-up world, however, I know the only leader I need is Jesus. That's because in God's economy; being a follower is a good and smart thing. God knows this world needs leaders and He relies on them to be His hands and feet. As long as we don't just do what the crowd does, we don't need to be considered a leader in order to live a life of dignity and respect.
I enjoy the peace that comes from knowing I'm following the creator of everything rather than just going along with everyone else. I am completely comfortable not being in the position of a leader. Furthermore, if God wants me in that position, I will be, but according to His timing.
I like to think for myself when it comes to the ways of this world, and I do. But when it comes to the center of my universe, all I need to know is Jesus. I guess that's what I like most about following the only leader worth following--I don't even have to know the end from the beginning--all I have to do is trust in Him.
MORNING PRAYER: I pray You will stay in charge of all I do today....in Jesus name, amen.
