Remembering Vicki - by Ken Ebright

"You're the last person the customer will see before they leave the store. You need to make a good impression." The grocery store manager told me this, and those words would ring true about twenty years later.
I met Vicky on the train. She was a sixty-year-old Philippine woman who had a lot of stress, both at work and at home with her husband who had dementia. I gave her a few tracts that pertained to her situation and the Gospel of John. Every day that I got on the train, she would be reading the tracts I gave her.
In August, Vicky's friend told me that Vicky had lost her job. In November, I asked this same lady how Vicky was doing and she told me that she had passed away.
The day I found out she was fired, as I got into my car, the Christian radio station played two salvation-themed songs in a row. I felt like the Lord was telling me, "Good job, Ken." I may have been the last person to share the Gospel with Vicky.
I had started the conversation by asking her questions about a book she was reading. I can only hope she asked Jesus into her heart. Someday, as I ponder this, I look forward to seeing Vicky in Heaven.
Ken is a native Minnesotan and loves to sing and can play a keyboard instrument. He process's mail for a living and receives tracts in that mail. Putting them to good use, he tries to hand out at least one per day to people like Vicki. Lord help us learn from Ken's example. Contact |
