Finding Faith – by Toni Babcock "Verily, verily I say unto you, he that believeth on Me hath everlasting life," (John 6:47).
Have you come to the cross of Christ seeking forgiveness for your sins, yet somehow the assurance of faith you long for continues to appear elusive? You reach out for Christ and his salvation, yet somehow you cannot seem to lay hold of the one thing you desire so desperately.
Upon closer examination in light of the cross, it may be that faith is laying dormant; the same faith that spurred you to come to Jesus in the first place. Now you need to address the unbelief that threatens to undo you, in light of the promises of God, for until you believe once and for all you are forgiven by Christ on the cross, your faith will continue to teeter on the edge of doubt, because "without faith it is impossible to please Him," (Hebrews 11:6a KJV).
The good news is, faith is a gift we are not asked to create ourselves; something we don't need to carry on the strength of our floundering commitments. Faith is supported on the strength of God's Word and promise! The power of faith is born of God, not us. What God is asking for is faith in the person and work of His Son Jesus Christ, and He always gives what he demands when we take Him at His word. Faith is ignited by believing in what His Word speaks regarding the gospel of Christ on our behalf, regardless of our elusive feelings, or what we say or do in the process of believing the gospel.
