Guarding Your Heart - Karen Pourbabaee

The term heart appears over 900 times in Scripture, only once in a literal sense. It's regarded as the seat of the intellect, feelings, and will- the soul. The heart is essentially the home of our real self. It's the spring or source of our thoughts, words, and actions. Its domain is the place we ponder, meditate, and come to believe. The heart is also a spiritual battleground and must be guarded above all else.
How can we build a guard fence around our heart? By purposefully taking offensive action as exemplified in the Word: First, treasure and meditate on His Word. "Thy Word have I treasured in my heart that I might not sin against Thee." (Psalm 119:11) Second, think rightly. "…whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, let your mind dwell on these things."( Philippians 4:8) These actions will bring peace to the battleground of your soul.
What might a well-guarded heart produce?
Blessings… "Blessed are the pure in heart." (Mathew 5:8)
Goodness… "The good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good." (Luke 6:45)
Life… "…from it flow the springs of life." Proverbs 4:23
The heart that is well-guarded becomes the doorway to the sacred temple of our spirit, where Christ may come to dwell by faith. It is the ultimate goal of guarding our hearts, to be revived in the springs of eternal life!
