My friend Greg and I worked on a local cable TV program called “Time Out” when we were in high school. He also was involved in theater and had a part-time job. It always seemed like I couldn’t depend on him because he was always so busy.
One night when I drove him home, as we sat in his driveway, he told me that he didn’t get along with his dad. I saw someone who was hurting. I felt the reason he was involved in so many things was because he didn’t want to be around his dad.
Being busy is not necessarily a bad thing, but it's not good if you are trying to avoid a painful problem. Living like this could lead to burn out or cause an exhausted person to get into a serious accident.
People in this world are going to disappoint us. We can give the Lord all of our hurts because He knows what we are going through. He felt the pain of rejection during the Crucifixion.
When people hurt us, we can bring it to the Lord through prayer. Jesus can heal those wounds that have been caused by broken relationships, and He can help us to forgive our foes through the power of the Holy Spirit.
If you are working yourself to death to avoid pain, either mentally or physically, just remember you can find rest for your soul in Jesus. We all experience heavy loads, but He can give us peace. Our part is to come to him.
