At the time of this writing, I am a single fifty-one-year-old man who has never been married. My mom committed suicide when I was fourteen, and my dad remarried. Seventeen years later, he divorced my stepmother and left town. I couldn't find a date for my Senior Prom. I let the one woman, who might have been a potential wife, slip away because I didn’t know what to do. When I go to church every Sunday and see families, I feel sad because I would like to be a husband and a father. There are many days when I have asked myself, "Am I such a bad person that others can't love me?"
When I am down, I have a hard time remembering that despite the fact there are people on this earth who have failed me, there is a man named Jesus who loves me so much that He let soldiers put metal spikes in His hands. In fact, He paid the penalty for my sins by dying on the cross.
Jesus has always put someone in my life to help me at just the right time, and He has kept a roof over my head because of His love, even if I think I don’t deserve it.
I don’t get a hug every morning or hear the words, “I love you,” when I go to work each day, but I need to get my hard head around the fact that Jesus loves me. I need to believe this with all of my heart. His sacrifice for all of my sins and for the sins of everyone, says it all.
