"He who has ears to hear, let him hear." (Mark 4:9)
In Mark 4:3-20 Jesus told the parable of seed planted in different types of soil and later explained it to His disciples. The listeners of the word are the various types of soil that the sower plants the seed in.
In the first instance, there is barely any soil on the path along which the seed fell, the birds were able to come and eat it up. The hearts of those hearing the Word being hardened by sin, they are not interested and Satan comes and wrests the word away from them.
The seed that fell among rocky soil was scorched as soon as the sun rose as there was no depth of soil or moisture to allow it to survive. The seed at once sprang up into a plant as the hearers receive the
word with delight, but they soon forget as the cares and anxieties of the world could not sustain it. This showed their lack of faith and a self-indulgent attitude.
The seed planted among thorns and thistles grew for a while but were choked and suffocated, yielding no grain. These hear the word but the distractions and pleasures of the world creep in and destroy it.
The seed planted in good soil brought forth grain, growing up and increasing, and yielding up to thirty, sixty and a hundred times as much as had been sown.
By our example, our fruitful lives can transform others, especially our children and those closest to us to accept Jesus and His Word. We can make a difference in the lives of those with whom we come in contact, so that those who learn from us can influence others they meet on their way.
