Stranded On Omnipotence Anna Darlene Edmondson
"Still far from shore, we hit a reef and the ship began to break up…"(Acts 27:41 Message).
My favorite catchphrase from the late Vance Havner is "shipwrecked on God, stranded on omnipotence." This pithy saying describes Apostle Paul and the sufferings he endured while planting churches around the then-known world. More than any other disciple or apostle, God entrusted Paul with a monumental chore of proclaiming revelations of Christ that brought many sons to glory (Heb 2:10). One such incident of Paul's survival is recorded in Acts 27. Along with 276 passengers, the Apostle and crew met endangerment, possibly death. A tempestuous storm arose during their voyage toward Rome. Actually, Paul was a prisoner aboard the ship on that particular journey. The soldiers decided to kill all convicts, so that none would escape. But, the centurion determined to save Paul, stopped their scheme. Paul had already received Divine assurance that all lives would be spared.
Much like the Apostle Paul, we meet numerous tribulations along life's journey and tend to lean on self-effort rather than the strong arm of God. However, when our strength is exhausted and our ships run aground, we can learn how to stand in His might (Deut 33:27). If we hold to His unchanging hand, we'll find safety. Our Father changes not and longs to bring us to an expected, promised end. Jude's short epistle describes God's great grace like this…" and now to Him who is able to keep you on your feet, standing tall in His bright presence, fresh and celebrating---to our one God, our only Savior, through Jesus Christ…"(verse 24). Dear friend, what would your life look like today if you decided to cast all you burdens on God's Eternal love?
