Sanctified or Not? Michael Edwards
For years I have been told that once I accepted Jesus as my Savior I was born again and immediately saved. Then the ongoing process of sanctification starts where the Holy Spirit would make me holy and sanctify me through trials. However if I believe the Bible instead of what I have heard, I learn I have already been sanctified, set apart as holy by the blood of Jesus.
… but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God. 1 Cor 6:11 NASB
…we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Heb 10:10 NASB
The Greek word for sanctified is “hagiazó” (I make holy, treat as holy, set apart as holy, sanctify, hallow, purify). It’s the same word used in the Lord’s Prayer in Luke 11:2 for Hallowed, meaning holy.
This is the frontline of our spiritual battle. The only sanctification the Bible speaks about is of our spirit, not our flesh. The enemy wants us to look at our flesh and be depressed. God wants us to know and believe our spirit has already been sanctified and be empowered as we focus on Jesus finished work. Then our right believing leads to the fruit of right living.
For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Heb 10:14 NASB
And now I commend you to God and to the word of His grace, which is able to build you up and to give you the inheritance among all those who are sanctified. Acts 20:32 NASB
Thank you Jesus! I believe I have been set apart as holy and all of the glory goes to God.
