Wars and Rumors of War – by Sharon Dow Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. Matthew 24:35 NIV
Jesus warns his disciples of events to come. Many believed the end would come and Jesus would return during their lifetime. But that didn’t happen. Jesus told them later in the same chapter that no one knows when the end will come; not the angels, not the Son, only God the Father knows.
But Jesus does tell of signs signaling the end is near; wars, rumors of war, nations rising against nation, famines, earthquakes, persecutions, death for Christ-followers, people turning away from God, false prophets, and the gospel preached to all nations.
We in North America are experiencing many of these signs as are countries around the world. With our instant global communication, we are able to see these things unfold as they happen on an international scale. We are shocked and horrified, but we should not be surprised. Almost two thousand years ago, Jesus told us these things would come.
In verse 37, Jesus tells them it will be as it was in the days of Noah. For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. In other words, life goes on. The signs are ignored. God is dismissed as uninvolved, irrelevant, or non-existent. But just as the flood came, so will the end times. The prophesies will be fulfilled; Jesus will come again.
Jesus says; therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. We must be ready. Are you ready?
