Ready, Set, Write! – by Lisa Carter
“My heart is overflowing with a good theme; I recite my composition concerning the King; my tongue is the pen of a ready writer.” Psalm 45 (NKVJ)
King David boldly used his gifts to honor God. I’ve struggled in using my own gifts, feeling inadequate and fearful of coming forward. I knew I was a writer from childhood. I didn’t think it was anything special; I just knew I could read, write, and spell easily. I later realized that not everyone had the same abilities, but that God gives us different gifts and talents. They are all good and perfect. It’s up to us to make the most of them and use them to honor Him. Sometimes, I find the voice of inadequacy tries to whisper in my ear to tell me I’m not good enough, don’t know enough, and I’m not ready yet. I used to listen helplessly to that voice, thinking I didn’t have a choice. Now I know better. Not only do I refuse to listen and give in to those meddling thoughts of “not yet,” but I say now is the time. I’m a writer today – not because I have a degree on the wall or a bunch of regular followers reading my work, but I’m a writer because God says so. This is what lights a fire underneath me, makes me take pen in hand, and put fingers to keyboard. While I will continue to work at honing my craft to be the best I can be, I will not wait. Today, I stand a ready writer fit for God’s use.
Prayer: Dear Lord, give us the courage to humbly and boldly use the gifts you’ve given us, in Your Son’s name, Amen. Focus: Those who feel inadequate in their gifts.
