In the Potter’s Hand – by Karen White I find it fascinating to watch a potter place a little mud and water on the wheel then with skillful hands create a magnificent piece of pottery. As I think about a potter, I imagine Jeremiah as he watched the potter destroy a flawed piece then create a new one. I can almost see the lightbulb go on over his head as the Lord’s words came to him, “O house of Israel, can I not do with you as this potter?” says the Lord. “Look, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in My hand, O house of Israel!” Jeremiah 18: 5-6 NKJV.
The Lord was sending Israel a warning to turn from their wicked ways and return to Him or be demolished. The Lord has not changed, if He was willing to destroy Israel, His people, He is willing to destroy any nation, including America.
The America of today is every bit as wicked as the Israel of that day. There is hope, however, in Jeremiah 18:8, “if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it.” My prayer is that America will turn from its evil and seek redemption from the Lord.
Dear Lord, I ask for Your mercy upon America. I pray for the leaders of our country and churches. I pray that as a Christian, I know when to speak and when to stay silent. I pray that America will be redeemed. In Jesus’s name, amen.
