Soul Winning Begins Here By Toni Babcock Believers are privileged in sharing the true story of the gospel of Jesus Christ. In fact, Christ can be shared so compellingly, people will be drawn to invest their faith in the gospel, or at least walk away from the conversation having a new perspective. On the other hand, it is possible to lose our influence for Christ faster than Road Runner dodged Coyote in the Grand Canyon.
Think about the craft of writing. Every good writer attempts to bring a setting or character alive in a reader's mind, not by telling the reader facts, but by engaging the reader personally with colorful details. He respects the reader. He uses words, but he uses words wisely. As the reader is drawn into the story, the characters, setting, and plot become so compelling - even illuminating, the reader can't help but keep turning the pages. Hence, the writer has succeeded in creating a narrative so powerful, the reader can't help but invest himself in the story, and uncover the emotional truth underlying the narrative for himself.
Believers in Jesus have a power that exceeds the writer's craft. The Holy Spirit is the power we invoke to influence ourselves and others. Hereby we show the gospel, we don't simply tell it. Consider David's prayer: "Create in me a clean heart oh God; and renew a right spirit within me. Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation, and uphold me with thy free spirit. Then will I teach transgressors thy ways and sinners shall be converted unto thee," (Psalm 51:10-13 KJV). Soul winning begins here. If we took ten times the effort pursuing David's heart towards holiness, our soul-winning successes might increase ten-fold.
