A Book of Remembrance - by Denise Ferrell “Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard it, and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and thought upon his name.” Malachi 3:16 KJV
In watching one of the earlier episodes of “Little House on the Prairie,” Laura said if she only had a book of remembrance, she would write about her experiences of traveling from Kansas to Wisconsin and of settling in that little house.
God also speaks of a book of remembrance. In Malachi, God tells us that the Israelites had once again become indifferent in their relationship with Him. They were offering defiled sacrifices on His alter. They had grown tired of doing what was right. Because God is perfect and holy, He explained to the priests that unless they took it to heart to honor Him, He would be left with no other option but to curse their blessings (Malachi 2:2). Those who feared God and esteemed His name, however, were recorded in a book of remembrance. The LORD said He would spare them and have compassion on them.
After speaking through His prophet Malachi, God was silent for 400 years. But the silence was broken when an angel delivered the message to Zacharias that he and Elizabeth would have a son. That son would be John the Baptist. God was already preparing the way. Lord, help us honor you and not grow weary in doing what is right, for there is a book of remembrance in Heaven.
