Don't Be Lazy - Ken Ebright

I once worked on the lighting for a television shopping channel, and I put my heart into the job. My boss, who was the head of production, asked me to come in at 8 a.m. and to check to make sure there were no lighting issues on the sets. As I advanced in this position, some days became so busy the company hired an assistant (who I’ll refer to as Bill) to help me on those really busy days.
Before I go any further, I will share I’ve been told one of my strengths is that I am very conscientious. This didn’t appear to be as important to my assistant, however. As I was lighting sets, Bill and I would have conflicts because he gave the impression he was ‘above’ helping me check the sets every morning. For example, one of the things that can be clipped onto the front of a light is a ‘jell’. The ‘jells’ have different colors like red or blue. We were assigned by our supervisor to “straighten out the jell cabinet,” but the day we were supposed to do that Bill conveniently called in sick. Based on my experience with Bill, I suspected he was calling in sick because he just didn’t want to organize the jell cabinet.
I put my heart into this job, wanting to do the best I could, no matter the task. Other people told me I was a hard worker too. They began to notice I was proving to be a better employee than Bill.
At work, it is better to work hard as unto the Lord and not be lazy. Do you work hard and try to do a good job?
