Do Not Forget – Jane H. Young
It is so easy to forget what we hear when we’re being taught; it doesn’t matter if it’s at school, a class for work, or in church on Sunday morning. However, there are some things we need to make sure we do remember – which are the teachings we read in our Bible.
“My son, do not forget my teaching, But let your heart keep my commandments; For length of days and years of life And peace they will add to you.” Proverbs 3:1-2 NASB1995.
“Do not forget my teaching.” These teachings (of which there are many) are the answer to every situation we will encounter on any given day. God says do not forget them. To forget something, you must first know it. Only by reading and studying the words of God are we going to get to know His teachings.
Then God says, “Let your heart keep my commandments.” Take them seriously, live by His instructions, and follow His directions. When we read our Bible, those words should not just become more head knowledge; they are precious and should be tucked deep in our hearts as words to live by. There is not another book you can read, or T.V. show you can watch, or worldly advice you could get, that will add length of days and years of life or peace to you.
Always ask the Holy Spirit to help you understand and remember as you read. “But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you.” John 14:26 NASB.
Prayer: Father I want to understand as I read and remember your teachings. I desire to let your teachings fill my heart and be what leads me throughout each day.
