| | | | | God Is Near Us Even In Our Hiding Lakella L. Davenport
Jeremiah 23:23-24 (WEB) – “Am I a God at hand,” says Yahweh, “and not a God afar off? Can anyone hide himself in secret places so that I can’t see him?” Says Yahweh. “Don’t I fill heaven and earth?” says Yahweh.
Jonah thought he had gotten far away from God, when in actuality God was still near him and with him. God could still see Jonah in his hiding place aboard the ship to Tarshish (cf. Jonah 1:3-17, Jonah 2 & 3 WEB).
God saw David and was with him in the hiding places where he was to escape King Saul. “David stayed in the wilderness in the strongholds, and remained in the hill country in the wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God didn’t deliver him into his hand,” (I Samuel 23:14 WEB). Although David was in a hiding place, God was still near him and God protected him.
Similarly, God was near Moses when he fled to the land of Midian after Pharaoh had heard that Moses had killed an Egyptian. Moses was hiding from Pharoah in the land of Midian (cf. Exodus 2:15) when the angel of the LORD first appeared unto Moses in a burning bush. God first spoke with Moses through this burning bush (cf. Exodus 3:1-22).
Likewise, God was near Joseph and Mary when they had to hide themselves and the baby Jesus from King Herod, who had threatened to kill the young Jesus if he ever found him (cf. Matthew 2:13-14 WEB).
Adam and Eve tried to hide from God in the Garden of Eden after they had sinned against God by eating of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. “They heard Yahweh God’s voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of Yahweh God among the trees of the garden. Yahweh God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”
The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself,” (Genesis 3:8-10 WEB). God knew where they were hiding.
The Lord will be with us even in our hiding places.

The steps to share your faith without fear – no confrontation. Pray and then get them alone.
Ask these five questions to help discover their personal spiritual condition.
Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
To you, who is Jesus?
Do you think there is a heaven and a hell?
If you died right now, where would you go?
If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
Listen to their answers in a calm and open way. You are asking their permission to share Christ with the last question. If they say no, you can drop it – no confrontation. You have still done the work of Christ and offered the truth.
Here are a series of five Bible verses to ask the lost person to read aloud if you have their permission. Let them read them and remain silent. After each verse they read, ask them what it says to them. If they misunderstand, ask them to read it again until they admit the truth in the verse.

if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with your heart you believe and are justified, and with your mouth you confess and are saved.… Romans 10:9-10 BSB
Then ask them a series of five questions that summarizes the truth of the verses and lead the lost person to the point of decision.
Are you a sinner?
Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
Are you willing to surrender yourself to Christ?
Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life?
Lead them in the Sinner's Prayer if they are ready to make a decision. Stay in touch and get them discipled or connect them with a local fellowship or small group for future growth.
