In September 2020, my husband and I went to Utah with some good friends. This was our first time visiting Utah, and it was spectacular! Every time we go out of town, we like to find a new place to go for a run. Running is a hobby that we started a few years ago, and it is something we enjoy doing together. The first 5k we ran, we struggled. It wasn’t because of a lack of practice or preparation. We trained for three months before the race, but our preparation took place on flat ground. However, the race route was half downhill and half uphill! That day, we learned how crucial training is on various surfaces and elevations to be prepared for challenging runs.
On the second day in Utah, we set out for our customary vacation run in the foothills of the Wasatch Mountain Range. This area is known for its rugged terrain due to annual precipitation and glacier groves that carved out sections of this beautiful land. The elevation in this area is +/- 7,000 feet above sea level. That’s a big difference from our regular running place, which is only approximately 780 feet above sea level, smooth and mostly flat! The Utah run was hard, but we enjoyed taking in the new sights, spending time together, and stretching ourselves beyond our limits.
Romans 5:3 talks about what builds our endurance spiritually: problems and trials. It’s not the easy stuff, rather, the hard stuff that produces endurance. It’s the same with running. It’s the hard stuff that produces endurance; rugged terrain, elevation changes, air quality, and various temperatures. These harder things make you a stronger runner. And the harder things in life make you a stronger person. The stronger we are, the better we can handle things that come our way. But let me tell you when you push past all those arduous things and climb that mountain, the views are breathtaking! It was worth every difficult step! Utah is quite majestic!
When facing tough or challenging situations, try to discover what positive outcomes might arise from them. Look for the awe-inspiring perspective that can emerge, and recognize what God can achieve in and through us because of the hardships we endure. Remember, “It’s no hill for a climber.”

The steps to share your faith without fear – no confrontation. Pray and then get them alone.
Ask these five questions to help discover their personal spiritual condition.
Do you have any kind of spiritual belief?
To you, who is Jesus?
Do you think there is a heaven and a hell?
If you died right now, where would you go?
If what you believe were not true, would you want to know it?
Listen to their answers in a calm and open way. You are asking their permission to share Christ with the last question. If they say no, you can drop it – no confrontation. You have still done the work of Christ and offered the truth.
Here are a series of five Bible verses to ask the lost person to read aloud if you have their permission. Let them read them and remain silent. After each verse they read, ask them what it says to them. If they misunderstand, ask them to read it again until they admit the truth in the verse.

Then ask them a series of five questions that summarizes the truth of the verses and lead the lost person to the point of decision.
Are you a sinner?
Do you want forgiveness for your sins?
Do you believe Jesus died on the cross for you and rose again?
Are you willing to surrender yourself to Christ?
Are you ready to invite Jesus into your heart and into your life?
Lead them in the Sinner's Prayer if they are ready to make a decision. Stay in touch and get them discipled or connect them with a local fellowship or small group for future growth.
